How can I use the scanner function of my HP Officejet 6500 printer without installing ink cartridges?

I am location it up solely for the use of the scanner, but as soon as I turn it on the printer reads that there is an erratum with the ink cartridges and it will not allow me to clear the message. I tried pressing OK, Offset, and Scan and nothing worked.
I skilled in it sounds silly, but you need to install the ink cartridges to make the printer utter. Same as in order to print with black ink, you need ink in the color cartridge also.

Does the HP Photosmart Plus All in One (with wireless) use the same ink as the HP officejet 6500 wireless?

We have two printers in our put up. One is a HP photosmart plus all in one and the other is a HP officejet 6500 wireless. Both the printers are continuous low on ink and it LOOKS (by the look of the cartridge) that they use the same ink. But do they?
They use unconventional cartridges according to the HP (USA) website, my friend.
The Photosmart Plus All-in-One uses the HP 564 or HP 564XL series of cartridges.
The OfficeJet 6500 All-in-One uses the HP 920 or HP 920XL series
