How do you reset the printer cartridges for HP Deskjet D1420?

I have a HP Deskjet D1420 and I have refilled the cartridges (HP 22 and HP 22). The printer continues to skim them as low or empty and will not print properly. Does anyone have a hack to reset the printer or printer cartridges to either look over full

First all all, I bought online for printer ink. Condign installed the "cartridge, printer said he was in seventh heaven, and go up again. I wonder why the photo ink cartridge this subject shows "new" is already half emplty or is it only half full? Anyway $ 9.99 (the same punishment that I paid when purchased at Staples) and labeled as new, I envision a full cartridge. Would not buy the ink on the shortlist for the new.
