I've been looking at the HP Officejet 6500 series. I yen to print a lot of photos, a little smaller than full page, but not daily or weekly. In fairness now I have a Lexmark x1270 and ink cartridges for it are just too expensive compared to the HP cartridges.
If your primary goal is photos, laser is not a good choice. Dry power frenetic on to paper can not achieve the resolution of liquid ink. I have a number of printers both inkjet and laser. Though the lasers have improved considerably, they can't trigger
