I was also judgement about buying a re-manufactured 100XL cartridge but I don't want to buy a refill kit if it isn't.
Remanufactured cartridges are native cartridges recycled by other companies. That involves refilling the cartridges. So I daresay you can refill them.

Several months ago I bought a Lexmark "Sway" PRO705 all-in-one printer at PC World in the UK (£129.99). It has worked well and I like the WiFi etc...
Now one of the reasons I bought it was that I was told by the PC World printer guru
I have never enchanted one apart so I can't tell you for sure but a lot of printer manufacturers do "embed" chips so that they can name their own cartridges. Some re-fill companies will take the old cartridges from the manufacturer and refill
